Energy and Network Aware Workload Management for Geographically Distributed Data Centers

چکیده

Cloud service providers are distributing data centers geographically to minimize energy costs through intelligent workload distribution. With increasing volumes in emerging cloud workloads, it is critical factor the network for transferring workloads across centers. For geo-distributed centers, many researchers have been exploring strategies cost minimization and inter-data-center distribution separately. However, prior work does not comprehensively simultaneously consider center costs, transfer queueing delay. In this paper, we propose a novel game theory-based management framework that takes holistic approach operating problem by making scheduling decisions aware of Our performs considers heterogeneity compute capability, cooling power, interference effects from task co-location servers, time-of-use electricity pricing, renewable energy, net metering, peak demand pricing distribution, pricing. simulations show proposed game-theoretic technique can more effectively than existing approaches.

Energy Aware Resource Management of Cloud Data Centers

Cloud Computing, the long-held dream of computing as a utility, has the potential to transform a large part of the IT industry, making software even more attractive as a service and shaping the way IT hardware is designed and purchased. Virtualization technology forms a key concept for new cloud computing architectures. The data centers are used to provide cloud services burdening a significant...

Energy-Aware Aggregation of Dynamic Temporal Workload in Data Centers

Data center providers seek to minimize their total cost of ownership (TCO), while power consumption has become a social concern. We present formulations to minimize server energy consumption and server cost under three different data center server setups (homogeneous, heterogeneous, and hybrid hetero-homogeneous clusters) with dynamic temporal workload. Our studies show that the homogeneous mod...

Hierarchical Approach for Green Workload Management in Distributed Data Centers

The efficient management of geographically distributed data centers has become an important issue not only for big companies that own several sites, but also due to the emerging of inter-Cloud infrastructures that allow heterogeneous data centers to cooperate. These environments open unprecedented avenues for the support of a huge amount of workload, but they need the definition of novel algori...

Energy-aware workload management models for operation cost reduction in data centers

In the last century, the costs of powering datacenters have increased so quickly, that datacenter power bills now dwarf the IT hardware bills. Many large infrastructure programs have been developed in the past few years to reduce the energy consumption of datacenters, especially with respect to cooling requirements. Although these methods are effective in lowering the operation costs they do re...

Remedy: Network-Aware Steady State VM Management for Data Centers

Steady state VMmanagement in data centers should be network-aware so that VM migrations do not degrade network performance of other flows in the network, and if required, a VM migration can be intelligently orchestrated to decongest a network hotspot. Recent research in network-aware management of VMs has focused mainly on an optimal network-aware initial placement of VMs and has largely ignore...
